Who We Are

Gender at Work helps organizations around the world become models for a more equitable, just, accountable world. Beginning right there in your workplace, with women and men who work together day after day, we help you build a fairer, stronger society.

How can an organization be a place where change begins?

Well, we believe that many organizations reflect the cultures in which they were created. In the way people work in organizations, we see biases that exclude or discriminate against women--as well as other marginalized groups.

Now, these biases are often deep, embedded attitudes that we're not even conscious of. We can't always change them just by creating new policies or throwing money at the problem. Deeper change--the kind of change that will help organizations actually get better results--needs to start with challenging mindsets and behaviours that lead to unequal power relations between men and women.

Since the early 1990s (we formally became a non-governmental organization in 2003), the women and men of Gender at Work have been learning and thinking and practising ways of sparking real change in individuals, organizations and communities, beginning with those unequal power relations that play out as people of all genders work side by side.
